The first AMENDMENT
Congress can not make any laws establishing what religion you can follow, freedom of speech such as protests and the freedom of the press, the government can't stop what you say on the news.

The first amendment was written for Americans to guarantee their basic freedoms.

First Amendment- Freedom of religion, speech and the press; right of petition and assembly
the second AMENDMENT
The government can and does regulate guns. They have laws on gun ownership, permits, registration, transportation of the guns and sales.

This amendment is argued about often, about youth gun ownership and/or unsupervised guns around the house.

The third AMENDMENT
During the colonial period, colonists were forced to let British solider sleep in their homes and eat their meals. Colonists were out raged and upset with the British government.

The writers of the Bill of rights wanted to make sure that it wold never happen again, so the 3rd amendment was added.

The fourth amendment
The police is not allowed to search someones house, body and papers. Without having a good reason. When the police finds a crime they have to go to a judge and convince them that a warrant is needed.
The FIFTH AMENDMENT
The Fifth Amendment is,
* The right to be indicted by an grand jury * The right to be free from multiple prosecutions or punishments * The right to remain silent when prosecuted ( An example is- "You have the right to remain silent, and anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." ) * The right to have personal liberties protected by the due process law * The right to receive compensation when the government takes your private property for public use. |
